I went to a local high school football game last night to support the son of a very close friend. As I walked to the bleachers to take my seat, I noticed the scent of the cool air, the drummers tapping their snares, kids playing football in the field, and the student section prepping for the game and all a sudden, a feeling of nostalgia came over me. I remember the days of being young, innocent, and thinking I was tough shit; walking around with my gaggle of friends. But at that time, I didn’t have an appreciation for the very things I find nostalgic today. I guess that’s what happens as a person gets older. The things that I took for granted as a kid, I have a stronger appreciation for as an adult. I had a great time at the game and my team won by beating an undefeated opponent. The parking lot after the game was just as I remembered in high school. The fans were happy and the band was filtering through with sounds of saxophones randomly spewing weak notes of “Hey Hey Hey…Goodbye.” I sometimes miss those days, but I am satisfied with being able to relive those moments as an adult and being able to appreciate them in a different way.
